I didn't arrive with a network, or a shortcut, or a name that opened doors. I started at MTV in the nineties, and I carved out my seat the only way I knew how — by turning up with something worth hearing. I led Insight and research. My passion was to see what everyone else was too close, or too busy, to notice — and then bring it into the rooms that mattered. It was never about being the loudest voice. It was about having something genuinely valuable to share, and the evidence to back it. 

I was the outlier in almost every interview room I ever walked into. But I could back myself — I brought enough evidence that someone could take a chance on me; some, thankfully, did! And every seat I earned, I earned by adding value before I was known — driving the commercial outcome at pace, and being deliberately contagious about the things that matter: curiosity, collaboration, and the behaviour I wanted to see around me.

No matter what room I walked into, I wanted to create space for every voice in it. Netflix taught me why: the biggest diamonds often sit with the calmest people in the room.

That's the thing I've come to understand about authority. The people who really have it aren't the loudest in the room. They're the ones who are genuinely present, who bring something real, who know their facts and don't wing it — and who believe, without needing to shout about it, that they belong. Not by becoming someone else. By being fully themselves, and being seen for it.

What I do now

I enable senior leaders to own their authentic authority — to be present in a way others actually see, and to belong in the room because they've earned their place in it. And not just the boardroom. Every room. I've watched brilliant people do the job with ease and still hold back from claiming their place in it — and I've watched what happens when that finally shifts. They lead. They're heard. They move with real conviction. And they give space to the experts around them — because they know the answer might already sit with someone else in the room.

I coach, and I mentor — and the difference matters. I'll ask you the question that lets you hear your own thinking. And because I've sat where you're sitting, when it helps, I'll just tell you what I see. That's the part most coaches can't give you: I've made the decisions, carried the weight, earned the seat myself. It isn't theory. I've lived it.

Why this is my work now

My authentic authority — the impact I made — is what enabled others to take a chance on me. Now it's my turn to do that for someone else. Watching a leader, a founder, or a team step into who they're becoming, and then actually become it — honestly, that's the best thing I do.
